“Come By Chance” is a folklore-inspired tale about what it means to be part of a family, how fate can change our lives, and how stories are passed down within a community.
What would it be like to one day realize that you were destined to be born into a completely different family? How would that have affected you?
Hosted by Newfoundland native Luke Quinton, the series is set on the atmospheric island and exposes the scandal that shocked this close-knit community almost a decade ago.
When two men born on the same day at Come By Chance Hospital discover an incredible secret that goes back 52 years, their view of themselves will be changed forever.
But the men at the centre of this story are not alone, as they will soon discover, there have been many other close calls and near accidents both in and outside Come By Chance hospital.
CBC commissioned Novel to produce the series, with Canada's public broadcasting company acting as producer and distributor. The show also includes an original soundtrack by Newfoundland composer Adam Foran, which will later be released as a full album.
Luke Quinton said: “Some of the stories featured in the show have been in the news before but with Come By Chance we've dug much deeper, which is the nature of the seven-part series. The level of detail we wanted is much higher and I'm grateful to the cast for trusting us with it.”
“Being a Newfoundlander myself, it was important to me and the entire production team to get our homeland right. The island is full of mythology and it basically has its own sense of gravity. It's a personality in and of itself.”
