The Times and Sunday Times are working with News Corp Australia on an international investigation into the global cocaine trade.
Cocaine Inc is a new eight-part podcast, video and editorial series.
Over the past year, The Times's chief reporter Fiona Hamilton, The Sunday Times' northern editor David Collins and News Corp Australia reporter Stephen Drill have worked to uncover the truth behind a global cocaine industry whose profits run into millions and whose losses run into murder.
Tim Revell, head of podcasts at The Times, said: “This investigation and podcast series demonstrates the power of collaborative journalism. By combining our expertise and resources, we've been able to shed light on the dark and often violent world of the global cocaine trade.”
“Filled with exclusive interviews and compelling audio, this unmissable series sets a new standard for how complex global issues are explored and addressed.”
News Corp Australia Network News national editor Lilian Saleh added: “This unprecedented collaboration brings together the journalistic strength of the News Corp family around the world and builds on last year's hugely successful Narcos on the Frontline series.”
“This will showcase our multi-platform storytelling, allowing consumers to read, watch and listen to great content in bespoke videos and online interactives. This is sure to be the first of many international collaborations that will showcase the breadth and depth of our journalism and storytelling.”
The investigation took place in 10 cities across six countries and four continents, including the UK, Colombia, Mexico, Netherlands, United Arab Emirates and Australia. The three journalists travelled 50,000km to uncover the estimated £93bn industry.
The series features exclusive interviews with police, drug dealers, ex-gangsters and cash mules, as well as personal stories of people who have lost loved ones to the drug industry.
Cocaine Inc. will be available wherever you get your podcasts starting Sunday, June 9th.
