“Killing Justice” explores how one man's death has impacted India's increasingly polarized politics.
The series from Crooked Media and The Branch begins with the mysterious death of Judge Brijgopal Loya, who suddenly dies of a heart attack shortly after refusing to accept a bribe from Modi's right-hand man, Amit Shah, but his family refuses to accept the mysterious explanation.
Two years later, his niece approached journalists and narrated a different story, in which the circumstances surrounding Justice Brijgopal Loya's death had led the family to question the official version.
Following the reporting and legal fallout from the tip, host Ravi Gupta examines the conflicting evidence and considers the wider impact that one night in the city of Nagpur could have on the world's largest democracy.
Released against the backdrop of India's elections, “Killing Justice” delves into the murky world of India's political powerhouse, including Amit Shah, the longtime activist who helped give Modi the political upper hand and who is at the centre of the Justice Brijgopal Loya case.
Ravi's findings show how the justice system works in the service of India's political elite, allowing true justice to be evaded and creating a market in innocence.
Ravi Gupta is a journalist, founder and CEO of The Branch, a former Obama Administration official, and co-host of the podcast Majority 54.
The first three episodes of “Killing Justice” are available now, with future episodes releasing every Monday across all podcast platforms.
