The Signal Awards have appointed Gemma Rose Brown, a 13-year industry veteran and former co-creator of On Air Fest, as their new general manager.
In her role, Gemma will be responsible for the awards programme, delivering on its core mission of celebrating excellence in podcasting and enabling discovery within the industry.
The winners of the third annual Signal Awards will be announced on October 15th, with the awards ceremony taking place shortly thereafter.
Last year, the awards received more than 2,000 entries, with over 130,000 podcast fans voting for the Signal Listener's Choice award.
Gemma joins from creative agency work x work, where she was previously the long-time Director of both the agency's Strategic Operations and On Air Fest, the premier creative festival for podcasters.
“Podcasting is an incredibly creative and influential medium that continues to shape our cultural landscape,” said Gemma Rose Brown. “I'm thrilled to take on this role at Signal to recognise the most innovative work being done today and expand the Signal Awards' impact on the industry.”
Last year's second annual Signal Awards winners included Michelle Obama, Oprah Winfrey, Eva Longoria, Doja Cat, Questlove, Hoda Kotb, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Jon Stewart, as well as notable podcast studios and networks such as Wondery, Crooked Media, Lemonada and iHeartPodcasts.
Signal also recognizes independent producers and up-and-coming series in a variety of categories, including Best Indie Podcast, Best Emerging Podcast and Best Experimental Podcast, as well as a number of below-the-line and craft categories.
