The award-winning Memories From The Dance Floor returns for season two this Pride month, with journalist and presenter Damien Carlin celebrating the history of LGBTQ+ venues.
The four new episodes see Damien leave the mega clubs and punk bars of the UK behind and head straight north up the M4 to Wales, where he explains: “London was loads of fun but the reality is that not everyone gets to enjoy the Emerald City at the end of the Yellow Brick Road.”
Damien has spoken to many people, including BBC presenter Owain Wyn Evans, drugs kingpin Dr Bev, DJ Ian Cottrell and Sian James, former director of the Welsh Women's Institute and Swansea MP.
Each scene has its own story to tell and throughout the series Damien uncovers narrative threads related to the scenes, be it the AIDS epidemic, Section 28, the miners' strike, political undercurrents or the music that inspired people to rise up.
Through first-hand testimonies and on-the-ground reporting, Damien meets the founders, party boys, lesbians and drag queens who lived and loved in these spaces that remain under threat today.
Damien says: “It has a thriving community, even more fun than London, I dare say.”
“Wales is my second home and having moved here as a freshman I was fortunate enough to experience some of the places featured in the series first hand and they truly did not disappoint.”
“The sense of community and pride here is amazing, and I can't wait for everyone to tune in to season two.”
Memories From The Dancefloor was named the winner of Acast's Amplifier and is supported by funding from Heritage Lottery Fund Cymru.
