A new podcast will be launched overseen by industry veteran Mark Sutherland and executive producer Mike Walsh.
Conceived as a weekly show showcasing the latest news and views from the music industry, “The Money Trench” is named after Hunter S. Thompson's infamous misquote about the music industry and will bring listeners insight into the global music industry every Monday.
Each episode discusses the week's hot topics and delves into the experiences of prominent artists and influential music business leaders to share their thoughts on the present and future of the industry.
The first episode features BBC Director of Music Lorna Clarke, who talks about her career and the BBC's running of Glastonbury, the biggest music and media event of the year.
Music industry experts confirmed to appear in upcoming episodes include Ferdy Unger-Hamilton (Promised Land Music, ex-Columbia, Polydor, Virgin), Tara Richardson (T Time Management, ex-Q-Prime), PR guru Alan Edwards (Outside Organisation – Prince, David Bowie, Spice Girls), Darcus Beese OBE (Darco Recordings/Warner Music UK, ex-Island Records), Toby L (co-founder, Transgressive) and team, Annabella Coldrick (MMF CEO), Ben Wynter (Power Up, AIM), Caroline Elleray and Mark Gale (Second Songs, ex-Universal Music Publishing).
Mark Sutherland is a leading music journalist and broadcaster with over 30 years' experience. He has written and edited for publications including Billboard, Music Business Worldwide, Music Week, NME, Rolling Stone and Variety, as well as contributing to BBC Radio 6 Music.
Executive Producer Mike Walsh is the former Head of Music at XFM/Radio X, with a career spanning major labels, artist management, tech and radio. He began his career with the Parlophone label over 30 years ago and is now an artist manager, ERA board member and partner at music retailer Serenade.
Commenting on the launch of the podcast, Mark Sutherland said: “With global music revenues approaching record levels and new platforms and business models transforming the music ecosystem, there’s never been a more exciting time to cover how the industry works and the people who make it work.
“We want TMT to become an essential part of the music business, so come join us as we take a deep dive into the most exciting industry on the planet.”
Money Trench is sponsored by PPL, which celebrates its 90th anniversary this year, and its production partner is Tape Notes, the team behind the famous John Kennedy podcast of the same name.
