“Hysterical” is a seven-part investigative series that explores a mysterious illness that struck a group of high school students in upstate New York in 2011.
Hosted by Dan Taberski, this podcast attempts to uncover what really happened in this intriguing case, and in the process, discovers similarities to other recent mysterious occurrences.
The series begins by investigating an outbreak of a mysterious disease in Leroy, New York, which some consider to be the most severe case of mass hysteria since the Salem witch trials.
Along the way, Taberski found parallels to recent mysterious cases, including Havana syndrome and a surge in police officers across the U.S. who have apparently overdosed from exposure to fentanyl.
Taberski is a writer, director, producer and Peabody Award-winning podcaster, and on Hysterical he weaves together multiple contemporary and historical events to deepen our understanding of these fascinating and unusual cases.
