“Conspiracy Theory, She Wrote” is a new podcast that illuminates the overlooked role of women as architects, evangelists and symbols in conspiracy theorizing.
From pastel-colored QAnon to royal pregnancy truthers to Taylor Swift psy-ops, the series reveals that even the most ridiculous fiction has a lot of truth to say about what we choose to believe, or refuse to believe, and why.
The host is Cristen Conger of Unladylike, a podcaster, author and professional female commentator who has explored conspiracy theories from a feminist perspective.
Kristen says: “Conspiracy theories aren't just fringe ideas – they reflect society's deeper fears and prejudices. Even the most ridiculous conspiracy theories, like Beyoncé's 'Illuminati hoax,' contain kernels of truth that are worth investigating.”
Season 1 begins a century ago when fascists, the forerunners of modern conspiracy theories, were “just asking questions” about deep state conspiracies, elite machinations, and shadowy secret societies.
From there, the show peels back the layers of a detective crew on women's spaces, interests, and pastimes with experts like misogynoir researcher Moya Bailey, NPR music reporter and Louder Than a Riot host Sydney Madden, and Conspiracy Charts creator Abby Richards.
The first weekly episode of “Conspiracy, She Wrote” will be available on all podcast platforms starting today, Thursday, August 8th.
