Charlotte Foster Podcasts has partnered with Dementia Adventure to produce the D Tour podcast.
The series documents 60-year-old Harriet Thomas as she walks 900 miles from Land's End to John O'Groats.
Inspired by her mother, who suffered from dementia, Harriet is aiming to raise £25,000 for Dementia Adventures, a charity which aims to improve the lives of people with dementia through nature-based activity.
The D Tour will feature personal anecdotes, expert interviews and Harriet's unique blend of music and nature.
Each episode will feature special guests, including local businesses that cater to people with dementia who Harriet visits on her journey.
A passionate singer-songwriter, Harriet combines her love of music with her enjoyment of the outdoors: she chooses tunes that fit her mood and writes poems and songs that reflect her experiences.
The series encourages listeners to embrace the present moment, find joy in simple pleasures and challenge perceptions of dementia.
Many people with dementia experience a 'shrinking world' as their social and physical world gradually shrinks over time, causing a loss of control and independence. Dementia Adventure aims to combat this by promoting activities that help individuals regain a sense of freedom and feel connected to the world around them.
Dementia Adventure has partnered with lead sponsor Macs Adventure and other advocacy organisations including Land & Water, Watergate Bay and Music for Dementia to cover the costs of producing the podcast and provide prizes.
Fiona Petit, CEO of Dementia Adventures, said: “We are incredibly proud of Harriet and her work raising awareness and funds for dementia. Her journey embodies the ethos of Dementia Adventures: resilience, community and the transformative power of nature.”
“Every step she takes is one step closer to ensuring more families living with dementia can enjoy life-enhancing supported holidays. I urge everyone to support Harriet, listen to the podcast and join us in making a real difference.”
The first episode of D Tour will be released today, Friday, August 9th, and will continue to be released every Friday thereafter.
