Crime documentary event CrimeCon returns to London this month with a line-up of leading experts.
The event, taking place at 113 Houndsditch on September 21st and 22nd, will bring together true crime enthusiasts, survivors, victims' families, criminologists, authors and law enforcement officials to share their stories.
In partnership with fact-based entertainment channel TRUE CRIME, the two-day program will include content from top documentary makers, investigative journalists and popular podcasters.
Among this year's featured guest speakers will be world-renowned child abuser and investigative journalist Chris Hansen.
In his session, “The Takedown: Battling the Epidemic of Child Predators,” Chris will explore the world of online criminal activity and provide behind-the-scenes insight into how he “took down” hundreds of predators across the United States.
Also appearing will be Dawn Dines, CEO of Stamp Out Spiking, and former Metropolitan Police Detective Chief Inspector Jackie Malton, who appeared in Channel 4's The Real Serpent: The Investigation into a Serial Killer.
They will delve into the case of a notorious serial conman and murderer who used drug abuse as his modus operandi, which Dawn's organisation is determined to eradicate. Dawn will also discuss the alarming rise in drug abuse, with more than 2,600 cases reported in the UK in 2022 alone.
Additionally, former FBI Special Agent in Charge Katherine Schweit, who served for 20 years as an FBI Special Agent, will host a live studio session titled “Lessons from the Assassination Attempt to Kill President Trump: Public Safety Following a High-Profile Threat.”
Following the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, Katherine was tasked with creating and running the FBI's Mass Shooting Investigations Program and authored the FBI's groundbreaking study, “An Examination of 160 Mass Shootings in the United States from 2000 to 2013.”
This year's line-up will include forensic psychologists Dr Shiloh and Dr Scott who will be investigating the phenomenon of false victimisation and key cases, and how this impacts real victims of crime.
Additionally, writer, director, scholar and activist Bexy Cameron will share her personal experiences of manipulation, control and resilience growing up in the Children of God cult.
Other prominent speakers include former Detective Inspector Stephen Keogh, who has decades of experience with the Metropolitan police.
He worked on the 7 July London bombings, for which he received a commendation, and spent 12 years in New Scotland Yard's murder investigation team.
Stephen will be hosting an interactive session, “Secrets of a Homicide Detective,” presented by TRUE CRIME, where he will talk about his experience working on murder investigations, the impact the job has had on him, and why it has been the most rewarding part of his 30-year career.
Other sessions will include a panel discussion analysing the Sky documentary series “Black Widow”. The true story of the notorious “Black Widow” Dena Thompson will be explored in detail by a panel featuring the victim's mother, investigating detectives and the series director who will provide exclusive insight into Thompson's decades-long campaign of fraud, deception and murder.
Nancy Borgen, events director at CrimeCon UK, said: “CrimeCon is more than just an event – it's a gathering of passionate people united by a commitment to justice and empathy for victims.”
“As the UK's leading true crime documentary event, we are thrilled to be bringing together internationally renowned experts, those on the frontline of criminal justice, tireless advocates for change and reform and our passionate community to deliver an unforgettable experience once again to London.”
