The new season of true crime documentary podcast “Witnessed” explores the story behind a 1992 incident at a veterans hospital in Columbia, Missouri, that saw a 500 percent increase in patient deaths.
Presented by Sony Music and Campside Media, “Witnessed: Night Shift” will be hosted by crime novelist and author of “Tokyo Vice,” Jake Adelstein.
The series takes us inside the 4th East Ward of a local Veterans Affairs hospital, where three doctors discover a suspicious increase in patient deaths overnight – all while the same nurse is on duty at the patients' bedsides.
Adelstein returns to his hometown to investigate the 30-year mystery surrounding what may have been one of the most prolific serial killers in American history, what really happened during the night shift, and why the hospital tried to cover it up.
Jake Adelstein said: “My father was a pathologist at Truman VA Hospital and was responsible for ordering the investigations into these deaths, so I have had a strong desire to investigate this case and the suspect for decades.
“My co-host on The Evaporated, Shoko Plambeck, and I have new access to audio recordings, court transcripts, and first-hand encounters. Together on Night Shift we will dig deep into the complexities of this case and hopefully finally bring about a resolution after all these years.”
