Radio 1 Anthems launches on BBC Sounds on Friday 8 November, offering opportunities for new production talent and a series of new commissioned works produced outside London.
The content mix will include existing on-demand content available on BBC Sounds, such as Radio 1 Workout Anthems, Radio 1 Chillout Anthems and Radio 1 Pop Anthems, and will also utilise the extensive Radio 1 archive.
The aim is to enable younger audiences to discover and rediscover the wide range of music and artists Radio 1 supported in the 2000s and 2010s, with a focus on nurturing new talent on and off-air.
This new expansion is part of Radio 1's efforts to discover young talent and develop them in the industry, giving them opportunities across the schedule, including select shows produced and hosted by former Student Radio presenters.
Aled Hayden-Jones, head of Radio 1, said: “Radio 1's Anthems will become a fond memory for our younger listeners, and we're going to create new opportunities to make that happen for people across the UK.”
“Radio 1 plays a vital role in nurturing new talent across the industry and we can't wait to bring this new service to our listeners for enjoyment and discovery.”
More details will be confirmed soon.
