Indie rock drummers and football fans Chris “Woody” Wood of Bastille and Piers Hewitt of The Boxer Rebellion have launched a new podcast called “Away Days.”
The pair have been touring non-stop for almost 20 years and, as lifelong fans of football teams Plymouth Argyle (Woody) and Southend United (Piers), have spent the past 20 years taking every opportunity to travel to watch their beloved clubs play.
In “Woody and Piers' Away Days,” the pair sit down with famous football fans to talk about the joys and sorrows they experience when watching their team on the road.
Everything from transcontinental journeys and camaraderie in the stands to pies, beer and awful performances.
The premiere episode, released today, Tuesday 10th September, features Torquay United fan Helen “Hell's Bells” Chamberlain, best known for hosting Soccer AM on Sky Sports for 22 years. Ms Chamberlain is reunited with old colleagues on the new Soccer AZ podcast.
Other guests in the first season include Capital Breakfast presenter Chris Stark (Watford), comedian Chloe Petts (Crystal Palace), Starsailor singer James Walsh (Liverpool), podcaster and Quickly Kevin star Chris Scull (West Ham) and You Me At Six singer Josh Franceschi (Arsenal).
The podcast comes from Lock It In Studio, the team behind ground-breaking podcast quiz Guestimators, which was founded in May by Andy Bush, narrator of Absolute Radio's Hometime, Will Nichols, former VP of content development at Universal Music, and Matt Cutler, the sports journalist behind the documentary The Pirates vs The Premier League.
Away Days with Woody and Piers is available on the Sport Social Podcast Network.
