BBC podcasts including Radio 4's The Coming Storm, The Archers, Newscast and award-winning drama show Limelight will soon be available on the fast-growing Nation Player app.
In an industry first, Nation Player and the BBC have agreed to make the BBC's flagship podcasts available on a free, easy-to-use mobile app, available on Apple and Android.
The deal will see BBC Podcasts take centre stage on the main page of the Nation Player app, alongside a host of other broadcasters and podcast providers.
Nation Player provides a free-to-join and monetise platform to a growing number of independent UK radio stations and podcast providers, including CountryLine Radio, Fun Kids, Sunrise Radio, Island FM, Shine Radio and Colourful.
Jonathan Wall, director of BBC Sounds, said: “We’re delighted to be working with Nation Player to offer listeners great BBC podcasts as part of their content offering.
“This relationship will see the BBC gain significant traction on its apps and support the growth of the newly launched Nation Player.
“This follows our fantastic work on the recent radio industry regulatory document and is a great example of BBC and commercial radio colleagues working together with the common goal of supporting the industry.”
Jason Bryant, founder of Nation Player, added: “Nation Player already provides a great in-car and mobile experience for dozens of independent operators, and we're thrilled to welcome the BBC as our latest content partner. We're confident that their market-leading podcasts will encourage listeners to spend even more time on Nation Player.”
