Crossways is a new podcast hosted by former England internationals Steph Houghton and Ian Wright.
Two footballing legends combine their experiences to bring you the latest from the Barclays WSL in a weekly women's football podcast.
It will also feature stories from the grassroots level of women's football as well as a look behind the scenes at the game.
In the past seven years, the “Lionesses effect” has seen the number of women's football teams in England more than double.
Lionesses icon Steph Houghton retired in March this year after winning 100 caps for England. She played a major role in the rise of women's football in the UK, playing for Manchester City, the national team and captaining the GB teams at the 2012 and 2020 Olympic Games.
She says of the new podcast: “We both love football and we approach women's football from completely different perspectives, which is what makes Crossways unique.”
“I'm really excited to be appearing on the show with Ian. Not only is his playing career incredible, but he's also one of the most consistent voices in women's football.”
“It's a fresh start for me and now that I'm retired it's a great opportunity to have more in-depth conversations about football and connect with the wider women's football community.”
Arsenal legend Ian Wright has been a driving force in women's football, using her voice to promote progress at all levels of the game.
He says, “I'm really excited about 'Crossways' and can't wait to do it with Steph, who I love and respect so much.”
“She's had a fantastic career at the highest level, seeing and experiencing some of the most important stages in women's football, so when we happened to meet after she retired, we got talking and immediately knew we wanted to do something together, so I'm delighted that the day has come.”
“It's going to be a big season with the next Women's Euros coming up in the summer and there's a lot at stake in the Barclays WSL.”
Crossways is a Spotify podcast from The Ringer, and the first episode was released today, Friday, September 20th, and you can listen to it on Spotify, YouTube, or wherever you get your podcasts.
