Sheridan Smith and Joanne Froggatt star in an all-new fictional true crime podcast, The Margate Murders.
This podcast from Audible features former police detective Sarah (Smith) and local newspaper editor-in-chief Annabelle (Froggatt). Both are witnesses to a series of crimes that took place over several decades in this seaside town.
The drama also features voices from a variety of stakeholders, including survivors, suspects, detectives, and forensic psychologists, who tell their own stories of what happened.
It's easy to listen to this series and mistake it for a true crime podcast, but it's all fiction. Sheridan, Joan, and the entire cast were given the scenario and setting, and they improvised the rest from there in their characters' heads.
“Margate Murder'' turns the podcast format on its head with impromptu performances from its stars, bringing a compelling, tense atmosphere to the fictional story synonymous with true crime.
As the story unfolds on the hunt for an elusive serial killer, The Margate Murders poses the question of whether you can really trust what someone says on a true crime podcast.
The series marks Audible's first British improvisational production and Sheridan Smith's first audio drama role.
The Margate Murders is currently available on Audible.
