The Sweeper podcast, which covers soccer matches around the world, has announced a new collaboration with soccer streaming platform FIFA+.
This podcast, hosted by football enthusiasts Lee Wingate and Paul Watson, explores the world of football in the 211 FIFA member countries and beyond.
Our friends Lee and Paul bring together global football headlines that fans won't hear anywhere else, covering geography, politics, history, culture and food, with a healthy dose of humour.
The bi-weekly episodes feature football enthusiasts interested not only in the key players but also in the wider world of football.
This podcast has a 5-star rating on Apple Podcasts and Spotify based on over 700 reviews, and we also release bonus episodes through our Patreon channel.
FIFA+’s support for podcasts is the next step in growing the show and highlights FIFA’s continued commitment to growing the game globally.
Sweeper was launched after Wingate and Watson bonded over their mutual love of Greenlandic football. The show's international appeal currently extends to 183 countries, states and territories around the world.
Lee Wingate is a soccer interpreter by trade, and has worked for a top German club and even interpreted at the Champions League final. After relocating to Vienna, he founded the English-language Austrian soccer podcast 'The Other Bundesliga' and later launched 'The Sweeter Podcast'. He has appeared on the Totally Football Show, Sky Sports, BBC Sport and talkSPORT.
Paul Watson is the former world's youngest football manager for the Micronesian island team Pompeii and author of the book “Up Pompeii” about his adventures. He was also the coach and co-owner of Mongolia's Premier League team. He is a regular on TalkSport and Guardian Football Weekly, and also writes for Four Four Two and ESPN.
