The latest study from Nielsen and Edison Research on audio listening in the U.S. for Q3 2024 shows that adults listen to nearly four hours of audio each day.
Nielsen has published “The Record: Q3 US Audio Listening Trends,” a quarterly report on how U.S. consumers spend their audio listening time.
According to the report, audio takes up nearly 20% of your daily time. In Q3 2024, people listened to 3 hours and 57 minutes every day on both ad- and ad-free platforms, including radio, podcasts, streaming music services, and satellite radio.
From July to September 2024, listeners spent 67% of their daily time on radio ad-supported audio, 18% on podcasts, 11% on streaming audio services, and 3% on satellite radio.
Among 18-34 year olds, radio accounts for the majority of daily time spent listening to ad-supported audio, with 48% in Q2 compared to 51% in Q3. %, and podcast listening share among viewers ages 18-34 decreased over the year. It was 31% for the second consecutive quarter, down from 35% in the second quarter and 37% in the first quarter.
