Radio 1 Anthems launches today with a new 24/7 stream on BBC Sounds featuring a line-up of Radio 1 voices and new talent emerging from the Student Radio Association.
The new extension, announced last September, will help young viewers discover and rediscover the wide range of music and artists supported by Radio 1 from the 2000s to the 2010s.
To mark the launch of Radio 1 Anthems, a special simulcast will take place on Radio 1 today, Friday 8th November, from 9am to 12.45pm, featuring a host of Radio 1 presenters including Greg James and Charlie Hedges. I will appear.
New hosts to Radio 1 Anthems include Chrissy Cameron, Lauren Redfern and Tyler Selby, who all rose to fame through the SRA network. Chrissy and Tyler are both recent graduates, and Lauren is still in college.
Chrissy Cameron said: My 10-year-old self is screaming right now. I can’t wait to fill your ears with pure nostalgia!”
Lauren Redfern said: “It feels so surreal to be joining the Radio 1 team as a new presenter at the launch of Radio 1 Anthem. Coming straight from student radio, this is a fantastic opportunity. I’m even more excited to play them all…because there are so many good bangers! It’s a dream come true.”
Tyler Selby said: “It’s surreal to play a song you found on Radio 1 as a kid on Radio 1 Anthem. I can’t wait to get started and feel the human nostalgia along with the listeners.”
They join Radio 1 familiar faces Greg James, Charlie Hedges, Dean McCullough, Nat O'Leary, Vicky Hawksworth, Mya Beth, Sam McGregor, Danny Diston and Jess Iszat. They will play a wide range of content, including existing on-demand content available on BBC Sounds such as Radio 1's Workout Anthems, Radio 1's Chillout Anthems and Radio 1's Pop Anthems, as well as the latest programmes.
Aled Haydn Jones, head of Radio 1, said: “Radio 1 Anthems will bring nostalgic hits to young listeners, delivering the biggest hits they know and love and reminding them of songs they may have forgotten from recent history. Generations .
“This stream also gives us the opportunity to open doors for new presenters at the start of their careers, and builds on Radio 1’s important role in discovering and nurturing new talent for the BBC and other industries. It makes me realize it again.”
