Broadcaster David Hamilton hosts a podcast aimed at over-65s in partnership with Parsley Box.
The four-episode Wise Words podcast covers topics that many older adults relate to, such as maintaining friendships, cooking traditions, learning in later life, and leveraging modern technology.
Each episode features guests speaking to David about these topics, exploring what it means to live fully in later life to celebrate aging with purpose and enthusiasm.
This podcast was launched in response to research that revealed that people over the age of 65 spend on average less than an hour a day talking to others.
A survey of 1,000 adults aged 65 and older found that 43% felt they had fewer people to talk to. As a result, we spend an average of just 58 minutes a day talking to others, compared to 22% of our time when talking to a more diverse group of people.
Holly McComb, CEO of Parsley Box, said:
“But because of this, many people feel they have fewer people to talk to.
“We wanted to create something to counter this, something warm and inviting, like hearing an old friend chat, but in a contemporary format.
“Sixty-five isn't old at all; research shows they're just as concerned about health and wellness as they are about retirement and money.
“Podcasts are a great way for older adults to stay socially connected.
“They offer a wealth of information and entertainment that can be accessed at any time, making them useful for older adults who may not have the same access to social events.
“Whether you want to learn about new developments in health, hear inspiring stories from life, or enjoy engaging discussions about current events, podcasts are a great way to keep your mind active and focused. .”
