In our new series of podcasts, Assume Nothing, we revisit stories that made headlines around the world in the 1950s.
Assume Nothing: A Deadly Diagnosis tells the story of a suspected serial killer from Northern Ireland, culminating in a special panel discussion in front of a studio audience.
The new series, presented by Vinnie Harrell and starring Ian McElhinney, tells the story of John Bodkin Adams, an Antrim-born doctor who set up a practice in Eastbourne, East Sussex, in 1922.
Adams, a native of Randalstown, was known as a stubborn man with a foreboding personality and great ambitions to go with it.
Life as a GP in Eastbourne seems normal, but everything changes when the police receive a mysterious phone call following the unexpected death of a patient. In 1957, Bodkin Adams was on trial for murder at the Old Bailey.
What really happened behind closed doors during Dr. Adams' visit?
The series concludes with a panel discussion featuring series contributors in front of a studio audience. The recording will take place on Monday 27th January at 6pm at the Accidental Theater in Belfast. To apply for tickets, visit the BBC Assume Nothing program page.
Series presenter and producer Vinny Harrell said: A story of a lost home and a lucky escape. We then delve into the mind of a sociopath and possible serial killer.
“Are we all capable of murder? We'll also hear from our expert panel, who will share their thoughts on the seven-part series.”
Assume Nothing: A Deadly Diagnosis will be available to listen to on BBC Sounds from Saturday 4th January and will also be broadcast weekly on BBC Radio Ulster from 1.05pm.
