Audio Lab is back for its fourth year with the goal of discovering and nurturing the next generation of audio creators.
The BBC Sounds Audio Lab program works with new groups to transform ideas into podcasts and will be featured on BBC Sounds to reflect diverse experiences from across the UK.
The four successful creators will be paid a full-time salary at Assistant Producer level for seven months (July 2025 to January 2026). Additionally, we provide a comprehensive package of practical and professional training, including dedicated production support and bespoke training plans.
These will be commissioned to one of Audio Lab's production partners across the UK. This year, these production partners are two BBC teams and two independent production companies. They are BBC Audio Scotland and Northern Ireland (Glasgow and Belfast), Persephonica (Sheffield), BBC Audio North (Salford) and Redude Listening (London).
Previous Audio Lab creators have won numerous awards and earned prestigious roles across the industry.
Khaliq Meer, Commissioning Executive, BBC Sounds Audio Lab, said: “We are proud to have brought back the BBC Sounds Audio Lab for a fourth year, continuing our commitment to nurturing new talent and nurturing creative new ideas from across the UK.
“Sacred Money’s success in winning Specialist Podcast at the 2024 British Podcast Awards highlights the exceptional quality and industry recognition our programs have achieved.
“With podcast listenership at an all-time high and BBC Sounds expected to be played 2.3 billion times across all content in 2024, the next generation will join us and discover what we and our partners can offer. There's never been a better time to benefit from our unparalleled support and resources. “
