As the potential for trade wars around the world looms, a new podcast covering what is called the biggest issue of our time is launching in Manchester with Made Made.
President Trump's second term elections cast the world order completely into the air.
In this new era of uncertainty and shift partnership, this new podcast asks: What did America do for us?
Released by journalist, broadcaster and MIM creative director Ashley Byrne, the podcast explores the complex and often controversial influences of American culture, business and politics in British society and other countries.
From the adoption of American slang and the influence of Hollywood in shaping UK entertainment, to the presence of American businesses and political ideologies, we see everything America has done for us so far.
The show not only looks at the influence of the US in the UK, but also compares and contrasts how other countries are dealing with it. By presenting a balanced assessment, the podcast invites listeners to form their own opinions on whether American influence was “a bounty or a troubling” for the UK, Canada, the EU and other countries.
Ashley Byrne said: “We never discuss America's impact on our lives, from how we manage nuclear deterrents to whoever owns our industry, our culture, and our way of thinking.
The 35-minute interview includes: How American acquisitions are in the UK shape, is it our nuclear deterrent or is it American? Big technology, the impact of social media, and the impact of algorithms, the threat to Uber taxi companies, the Amazon effect, the UK premiership rapidly transformed into the American premiership, the Americanization of our language and Black Friday, how it is on Halloween and school proms, and where it came from, and how the US gave a culture war.
Ashley adds: “The American footprint of our lives is everywhere: medicine, mental health (the US DSM determines the label of mental health that continues throughout the world), the environment, food production and content, and of course in storytelling through television and film.
The first episode includes an interview with the author of How's Angus Hanton, which runs the UK by Vassal State: How America.
What America has done so far is available anywhere you can get the podcast from next week.
