Death County, Pennsylvania is a new investigative documentary examining the mystical deaths of dozens of prisoners at the Dauphin County Jail in Pennsylvania.
Windery's series reveals a web of corruption, abuse and systemic failure.
The podcast, hosted by Pennlive investigative reporter Joshua Vaughn, follows Lamont Jones, who has become an interested citizen and elected official as a former Dauphin County jail inmate as he searches for the truth after his young cousin dies under suspicious circumstances in the same prison.
Jones is ready to leave the Dauphin County Jail and leave the free man and rebuild his life. However, when his young cousin, who has entered prison as a healthy 22-year-old, dies at the same facility just two weeks after he arrives there, Jones discovers that his cousin's death is not an isolated incident.
In fact, dozens of men have died under mystical circumstances at Dauphin County Jail, and the truth has been hidden for years.
As Vaughn and Jones dig deeper, they find themselves at odds with prison and local authorities working at Rockstep to hide the deaths of suspicious inmates.
This includes county coroner Graham Hetrick, who found fame on reality television and boasts the questionable catchphrase, “I Speak for the Dead.”
Jones' emotional journey from prison to crusades is quite different from Hetrick's self-active approach to his role, offering an electrical conflict within the series.
The podcast sheds light on systemic issues in Dauphin County jails and prisons across America, from medical neglect and abuse to utter corruption.
It also demonstrates the power of community action in challenging and potentially reforming institutional failure through Jones and his allies.
Death County, Pennsylvania, will be released on Wondery+ on April 14th and will get the podcast on April 28th.
