International Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences has announced the winners of the 29th Webby Awards.
The Webby Awards Star Studs Ceremony, hosted by author, comedian and actress Ilana Glazer, will be held on Cipriani Wall Street on Monday, May 12th.
Webby's recipients were selected by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, whose members were: Todd Kaplan, CMO, Kraft Heinz. Jaime Tevan, chief scientist at Microsoft. Desiree Perez, CEO, Rocnation; Law Roach, Image Architect. Shigetaka Kurita, Emoji Artist & Father. Shannon Sharpe, NFL Hall of Famer & Host, Club Shay Shay & nightcap; Severin Hacker, co-founder & CTO, Duolingo and more.
The Webby Awards honors groups of individuals for their outstanding contributions to internet culture with the Special Achievement Award.
They will join the ranks of past special achievements, including Prince, Kim Kardashian, Megan Tellorion, Greta Samberg, Julia Louis Dreyfus, Solange, Murakami, Adam Sandler, and founders of Instagram.
“The Webby Awards celebrate the incredible diversity and global reach of the Internet,” said Jesse Feister, executive director of Webby Media Group. “This year's winners represent a masterclass in creativity and innovation. They leverage the power of the internet to promote change, trigger conversations and connect in new ways. With the introduction of new categories, these creators are recognized for shaping the future of the digital world.”
This year, The Webby Awards will award Google for the first-ever Brand of the Year achievements, with seven Webby wins, nine Voice Winners, 24 nominees and nine Honorary Awards.
The Academy introduces Webby Podcast Company of the Year to the organizations that earned the most honors in the podcast category. With six Webby victory and eight voice victory, IheartMedia will win the award, along with nine candidates and 11 honors.
Additionally, the Academy announced that NBCUniversal has won the most honors in all Webby categories as Webby Media Company of the Year with four Webby victories, nine voice victory, 19 candidates and 11 honors.
This year's newly introduced creator category suite shines the spotlight, celebrates the booming creator economy, and boosts the influence of creators shaping culture, entertainment and the internet.
Winners in these categories who played transformative roles in digital experiences include Caleb Simpson, Crisquemens, Colinphase, Jake Shane, Jamies Winston, Joe And, Joshua Weissman, Laufey, Nick Degio Vanni, Skividi Toilet, Trixie Mattel, and Zack King.
