Global is launching a new podcast that tells the story behind the most dramatic moments in sports history.
How everything unfolds: The biggest moments of sports are set in front of the two most reliable sports voices in the UK: Mark Pougacci and Paul Hayward.
The series goes deep into some of the most decisive, controversial and iconic events in the history of sports, from legendary victory to flashpoints that sparked global debate and outrage.
Mark Pougatch is the Chief Sports Presenter of ITV Sport, and Paul Hayward is a contributor to the editor of The Observer. Each episode explores topics such as why England will never hold the Men's World Cup again, the enduring mystery of legendary racehorse Shergal, and the controversy that shaped Muhammad Ali's career.
The podcast also explores how sports play an important role in politics and culture at the global stage. For example, Mark and Paul carefully analyze how South Africa's 1995 Rugby World Cup consolidated decades of apartheid-divided countries.
The episode will be released every Thursday with bonus episodes. This reveals a quirky and forgotten corner of sports, from golf on the moon to help Kia Oval launch the FA Cup.
These episodes bring a playful contrast to the main series, shedding light on stories that probably haven't heard of.
Mark Pougacci said: “Sports is full of incredible moments, but the stories behind them are just as fascinating.
“How it all unfolds is going beyond the headlines to reveal the twists, turns and what we love.
“I've always been fascinated by sports drama. This podcast gives Paul and me the opportunity to relive the biggest moments through a fresh lens. I can't wait for listeners to join us on this journey!”
Paul Hayward added: “Sports aren't just about results, winners and losers, it's about the stories that shape the era, career and culture.
“Our new podcast delves into groundbreaking moments in world sports and applies fresh analysis and context. By deep love of the history of sports, it was a privilege to explore these stories with Mark. We hope our listeners enjoy the journey just as much as we do.”
Vicky Etchells, director of Podcasts at Global, said:
“Their unparalleled experience and insights unfold, how it unfolds explores the critical moments that have changed the world of sports forever. It is persuasive, thoughtful and full of surprises.
