The Museum of Natural History has launched a new podcast series called “The Perfect” specimens, giving the natural world a humorous and unexpected view.
The 30-minute episode, hosted by museum zoologist Dr. Natalie Cooper and science writer Dr. Josh Davis, uses 80 million specimens from the museum to inspire engaging conversations.
The format is simple. Each episode starts with random adjectives such as “Squishy” and “Tacky” and the host presents two themed specimens, ranging from real objects to images and cute toys.
Hosts guess each other's chosen items and share scientific facts, trivia, and lesser known stories from nature.
Dr. Cooper said: “This podcast is a truly exciting opportunity to share more of our collection and science and do something fun while doing it!”
Josh Davis added: “Nature is wonderful and strange, and unimaginable.
The podcast also invites audiences to suggest adjectives, submit their own specimen ideas, and ask questions about future Q&A episodes.
Episode 1 of the “Perfect” specimen will be released today, Tuesday, May 27th, on all major podcast platforms and the museum's YouTube channels.
