BBC Sounds has launched Tortoise Investigates, a new feed featuring three new investigative podcast series from Tortoise Media.
The box sets will be released sequentially on BBC Sounds this autumn, with the first series due to be released on August 25th.
Each box set series unfolds an intricate story that involves a diabolical prank, a vicious decade-long catfish scam and the mysterious death of a young war reporter.
“Hoaxed” is released on August 25th and follows Tortoise Investigations editor Alexi Mostras as he uncovers a serious conspiracy theory in the heart of an affluent North London neighborhood.
Mostras will return on Sept. 25 in “Sweet Bobby,” an award-winning series about love and deception in the digital age.
The third series, Pig Iron, will be released on November 25th. It is a dark adventure set in war and journalism, asking what really happened to 26-year-old reporter Christopher Allen. Pig Iron, hosted by Bassia Cummings, won Best Documentary at the 2023 British Podcast Awards.
Lauren Bradley, who is overseeing the acquisition for BBC Sounds, said: “We’re delighted to be working with Tortoise Media to bring this high-quality storytelling to BBC Sounds.
“All three podcasts will benefit from prominent curation on our service and reach new audiences. This exciting new service is part of our ongoing commitment to offer a wide range of must-listen podcasts and contribute to the growth of the sector in the UK.”
Alice Sandelson, commercial strategy director for audio at Tortoise Media, added: “We're thrilled to launch Tortoise Investigates on BBC Sounds, allowing even more listeners to enjoy our award-winning, chart-topping series, which has captivated audiences around the world since it was first released.”
“The Tortoise podcast series explores untold human stories that offer a deeper, longer-lasting understanding of what's going on in the world. Hoaxed, Sweet Bobby and Pig Iron are prime examples of this.”
