Our new weekly global news podcast, 90 Seconds to Midnight, contains informed analysis, discussion and on-the-ground reporting on the week's most impactful geopolitical issues.
Produced by DMG Media, the podcast is hosted by Daily Mail special correspondent David Patrikarakos.
The Doomsday Clock is a symbolic countdown to human extinction and a globally recognized annual indicator of the world's vulnerability to man-made global catastrophe. When the clock strikes midnight, the world will come to an end.
The Doomsday Clock is set every year, but given the scale of the challenges humanity faces every day, this podcast will be setting its own Doomsday Clock each week.
Each episode features an expert guest, the first of which is Ukrainian war correspondent Ilya Ponomarenko, recorded on-site in Kiev.
Upcoming contributors include journalist and historian Anne Applebaum, who will talk about the rise of dictators around the world; historian Niall Ferguson, who will talk about the new global conflict led by China, Russia and Iran; and former Israeli government spokesman Eron Levy.
At the end of each episode, David asks his guests one question: Is midnight approaching or receding?
David Patrikarakos grew up with an Athens-born father who emigrated to the UK after the Greek military junta of 1967 and a mother who was exiled from Iran by a band of ageing ayatollahs. Geopolitics has been an inescapable part of his life since birth.
After a haphazard (and ill-fated) foray into the law, he became a foreign correspondent and then, almost by accident, a war correspondent, and he is interested in the forces that shape our times, nowhere more so than in, sadly, than in war.
“90 Seconds to Midnight” is available on all podcast platforms starting today, Thursday, September 12th.
