The story of true life of the promise of floor to the father of a young woman is the subject of a new podcast from BBC Local.
It is a promise to take her on a journey from the southern coast of England to the other side of the world to solve the mystery of her family.
The eight-part series, DNA Trail: The Promise, follows BBC journalist Laura Ancell and her mother, Jayne.
Laura's dad, Brighton's charismatic Billy, discovers that the man who raised him in his 30s is not his biological father.
With the fact that he served in the Royal New Zealand Air Force, only William Anderson, the mystery man's name, Billy pursues him only to be left rejected when he has never heard of it again. You can do it.
Nevertheless, Billy had potential clues of his past, thanks to the cans that her mother Madeleine kept some of her most personal possessions.
One of them was a photograph showing her mother smiling in Brighton Beach in 1945.
The story uncovers the mystery of Billy's family from 1944 to the present, exploring the lost connections across generations and continents.
Speaking of her journey, Laura said: “It is very important to me to know where I came from, and I hope people can relate to our stories.
“My dad always felt like a big part of him was missing. When he died, most of me was missing too. So I took the baton from him and he I continued my search. For me, it was to reveal the truth and be proud of my father.”

When Billy died in 2006, Laura and her mother Jane promised to find his biological family, which he had not been able to meet.
