The latest season of Sony Music's hit investigative podcast series, exploring shocking tales of crime and deception, has begun: “Smoke Screen: My Friend, The Serial Killer.”
Journalist and host Steve Fishman tells the story of serial killer Robert F. Carr III and, with the help of the killer's daughter, investigates Carr's decade-long crime spree and his personal connections.
Fishman tries to understand the man he met briefly just months before he confessed to multiple rapes and murders.
The killer picked him up as a hitchhiker but somehow let him get away. The series includes never-before-heard confession tapes, interviews with detectives, and road trips to the crime scenes. All the while, Fishman continues to question why this happened, why he was spared, and how he can ever look back on this dark story from so many years ago.
“At age 19, I was working at a local newspaper in Connecticut when my world changed forever. The bell rang to let me know that a big news story had come in,” Steve Fishman said. “In that moment, I knew I had almost become the victim of a serial killer, and I spent years searching for answers about this man I'd narrowly escaped.”
Presented by Sony Music Entertainment and Orbit Media, “Smoke Screen: My Friend, The Serial Killer” can be heard on The Binge as well as major podcast platforms including Apple Podcasts and Spotify.
