The Audio Production Awards, sponsored by Audible, are now in their 14th year.
Applications for the awards, run by AudioUK, opened early this year, giving applicants a longer period to apply than usual.
Chloe Straw, managing director of AudioUK, said: “We're delighted that the APA is continuing to host a growing number of audio awards ceremonies, which is testament to the growing popularity of audio.”
“Now in its 14th year, the APA has a really long history. What started as a small ceremony has now become an annual event at the BFI in London. The APA team always puts in so much effort to make the awards happen and I am so grateful for their work.
“Having the opportunity to celebrate audio across the industry is hugely important for the audio industry as a whole, as well as shining a light on producers who are so important to the industry and to AudioUK as an organisation.
“We're incredibly grateful that Audible has once again supported us as lead sponsor and given us the opportunity to celebrate the many talented people that make up the audio industry.”
“We want to ensure there are no barriers to participation, so if you can't afford to enter the prizes please use our Pay What You Can scheme, which we run in partnership with Amazon Music and Wondery. Alternatively, if you have any other barriers to taking part please get in touch with the team.”
“What started as a solely independent sector focused event has now opened up to the entire audio industry while still keeping its independent spirit, so bring your best audio and let's battle it out across categories.”
There are 23 categories, ranging from Best Producer in Comedy, Fiction, Drama & Fiction, Arts, Music, Entertainment, Lifestyle & Society, Audiobook and Sound Design, to On Mic, New Talent and Best Ensemble Cast, as well as a special AudioUK award, which was won last year by Reform Radio.
This year there is a new category, “Little Years Producer,” which celebrates the proliferation of audio being produced for younger audiences.
The 2023 winners included Anishka Sharma, who won the prestigious award for Producer of the Year, Overcoat Media, which won Production Company of the Year, Kwesia, also known as City Girl in Nature, which won Best New Voice Actor, and Betty Glover, Christian Hewgill and Greg James, who were named Best Ensemble.
As always, there will be an award for Production Company of the Year and Publisher or Network of the Year, with the addition of Producer of the Year and Sustainability and Climate Awards, which have been added following last year's awards.
This year too, the Grassroots Productions category will recognise producers, teams and organisations working closely with local communities. The category recognises the particular challenges faced in the sector and is free to enter.
Early bird entry prices will remain fixed at the 2018 prices of £35+VAT for AudioUK members and £45+VAT for non-members until 9am on Wednesday 31 July. After that standard entry prices will be £50+VAT for AudioUK members and £60+VAT for non-members until the final deadline of 2pm on Wednesday 11 September. Entry cannot be extended.
AudioUK, with support from Amazon Music and Wondery, will be running their Pay What You Can scheme for the third year, offering discounted rates and tickets to those who are unable to enter or attend the Awards due to financial constraints.
