Clara Amfo and Jordan Stevens are competing to create the ultimate mixtape on BBC Sounds.
Two of the UK's best-known podcast hosts and long-time friends, award-winning presenters Clara Amfo and Jordan Stevens of Rizzle Kicks, have the goal to curate the perfect mixtape for a particular mood, event or occasion, drawn from themes set by listeners and celebrity guests.
Clara and Jordan highlight new music lovers (and haters) and forgotten classics in the hopes of winning over listeners and coming out on top, and in their quest for perfection, they even engage in some friendly competition, including “plagiarizing” songs.
Episode one sees Jordan stealing Kano's “3 Wheel-ups” from Clara to make his own mix tape, celebrities stopping by to “gift” the pair tracks from their mix tape, and there are even a few confessions along the way.
In the second episode, the theme of this week's music showdown is set by Ivor Novello Award nominee and singer-songwriter Rachel Cinoulili, who asks Clara and Jordan to create the ultimate “guitar pop” mixtape for her while on tour. Rachel will then decide who will curate the best mixtape and be crowned the winner.
Clara Amfo had this to say about Make Me A Mixtape: “I'm excited to share and compete with Jordan on Make Me A Mixtape. I've always loved sharing music with strangers, friends and family, so this is an extension of that in the midst of all the algorithms that surround us.”
“We look forward to hearing more of our guests' stories about the songs we selected… and of course, winning against Jordan at every show!”
Jordan Stevens said: “I’m delighted to be joining the BBC family and working alongside Clara at the same time.
“Make Me A Mixtape is a show full of passion, competition and friendship. Plus, it's a great opportunity to show off your musical tastes and get your competitive juices flowing.”
“This format is really relatable and we all love creating playlists, but it can be hard to narrow them down, so we want to help streamline the process for our listeners.”
The first two episodes of the 12-episode series are available to watch now on BBC Sounds, with future episodes releasing every Tuesday.
