Amy Powney, sustainable fashion influencer and creative director of fashion label Mother of Pearl, joins Armchair Adventures for a special episode series of the hit podcast.
Amy and the kids' podcast Armchair Adventures embark on a magical journey of discovery to find out where our clothes actually come from and how making them impacts the planet.
Creative director Amy Powney is on a mission to make Mother of Pearl a sustainable, transparent brand that doesn't cost the planet.
After spending the last six years on a journey to discover where her clothes really come from, which was the subject of the documentary Fashion Reimagined, she now wants to take her kids on the journey.
Amy says: “Children are fascinated by the natural world and I wanted to invite them into Narnia with their own wardrobe and help them understand where their clothes really come from.”
“They would be intrigued to know that the viscose in their dresses came from giant trees and that their shorts fluttered in the breeze across the cotton fields.
“Wouldn't it be funny if they saw a woolly jumper and imagined two eyes, messy hair and the sound 'meeeeeh', or imagined the silk of skin coming from a wriggling insect?
“Through this fantastic story from the Armchair Adventures podcast, we hope to spark children's imaginations and inspire them to discover the jungle hiding in their wardrobe.”
The episode, titled “A Super Sustainable Fashion Adventure,” aims to teach kids about sustainable fashion and how what we wear is connected to the planet around us. The story also touches on the unsustainable aspects of the industry, from plastic clothing made from fossil fuels to chemical pollution and water waste.
Andy, Director of Made By Mortals, creators of the Armchair Adventures podcast, said: “We're thrilled to be collaborating with Mother of Pearl on this exciting new 'Super Sustainable Fashion Adventure' episode of Armchair Adventures.”
“At Armchair Adventures we are passionate about teaching children important topics in a fun and engaging way, and what better way to do this than with a magical adventure.
“Partnerships like this are incredibly important to us and no topic is more important to us than sustainability. By opening children's eyes to the connection between clothing and the planet, we are empowering them for good.”
“This is such a fun adventure and I can't wait to introduce kids to a real-world sustainability hero in Amy Pownie!”
The special episode of Armchair Adventures is available now on all podcast platforms.
