The UK Podcast Awards took place on Tottenham Court Road in London, with eye-catching billboards showcasing the finalist nominees for this year's event.
The list of nominees, officially announced last Thursday, includes Gary Lineker, Dan Snow and Mark Kermode, as well as around 200 other candidates across more than 25 categories.
The advert aired today on large outdoor screens covering the outside of the Outernet building. The entertainment complex will again host the awards ceremony this year at its state-of-the-art events space, HERE @ Outernet, on September 26th. Tickets are available on the British Podcast Awards website.
The showcase expands the UK Podcast Awards’ efforts to shine a spotlight on applicants as part of its mission to showcase the world-class work being done in the UK podcasting industry on a wider stage.
This year's UK Podcast Awards will bring together hundreds of industry luminaries and nominees at The Outernet and, for the first time, will be supported by tech giant YouTube, which has been announced as a partner in the Rising Star category for the 2024 awards.
Alison Lomax, managing director of YouTube UK and Ireland, said: “We're thrilled to be YouTube's official partner of this year's British Podcast Awards. The UK podcast scene is thriving and the Awards play an important role in highlighting the best creators and content.”
“Podcasts have been hugely successful on YouTube, where it can accommodate a wide range of content styles, formats and features, so this partnership feels like a natural fit. We want podcasts to thrive on and off the platform, and can't wait to celebrate the incredible talent and innovation at this year's event.”
Following YouTube, Audible has also signed on again as a partner of the awards, and fellow Amazon company Wondery has also resumed its support for the UK Podcast Awards' scholarship programme, which specifically supports candidates with independent backgrounds who want to take part in the awards.
Chris Borgen, head of UK podcast content at Wonderly, said: “The UK Podcast Awards are a fantastic opportunity for the industry to recognise and support talent across all areas of podcasting, from grassroots to established shows. Partnering with the UK Podcast Awards to continue our support of the scholarship scheme is really important to the team and to me.”
Scholarships like these help reduce the financial barriers to applying for and attending the awards, which in turn contributes to diversity in the podcast industry. We look forward to seeing this year's incredible nominees.”
This year's awards are also supported by Podcast Discovery and Global.
“Podcast Discovery is thrilled to support the British Podcast Awards,” added Podcast Discovery co-founder Matt Deegan. “It's the biggest podcast event ever, bringing together all the richness of podcasting. We're committed to podcast discovery and think there's no better way to shine the spotlight on great shows than with nominations and wins.”
James Hickman, Global's chief digital product officer, said: “As the UK podcast market continues to boom, the British Podcast Awards are a fantastic opportunity to showcase the best podcasts in their class. We're proud to support the awards now in their eighth year and look forward to highlighting the great content our listeners love.”
