Journalist and documentary maker Amber Haack will co-host the new series “Bad People” alongside criminal psychologist Dr Julia Shaw.
The updated 20-episode BBC true crime series will see Amber give details and details about the case after speaking to victims and detectives.
Meanwhile, Dr Julia Shaw will provide key insights from criminal psychology to ensure the series is rooted in expert opinion about why people do horrible things and the impact their actions have on others.
Stories to be featured in the new series include the lockdown pyjama killer, a Gatwick Airport blackmailer and interviews with victims of a notorious Tinder scammer.
Speaking about the podcast, presenter Amber said: “I make true crime documentaries for a living and I spend a lot of my free time digging into crime stories and interacting with the people who have lived through them – the victims and their families, the police who investigated the crimes and the journalists who covered them.”
“I love diving deep into cases and seeing the twists and turns and connecting the dots, but I also have a strong passion for meeting the people whose real lives are affected by these cases, and that's true from all angles of the crime.
“What I'm really looking forward to bringing to Bad People each week is a compelling true crime story with so many layers to unravel and introduce listeners to fascinating worlds and characters, but also insights from the people who lived through it; the emotions and unanswered questions.”
Dr Julia Shaw added: “Amber brings a fresh feel to Bad People – she gives us a deeper understanding of the real people involved in these crimes, and she also brings her own journalistic expertise.”
“I've already noticed that she thinks about criminal cases very differently than I do, which is fascinating. I look forward to using my expertise as a criminal psychologist to help Amber navigate these cases and for her to change the way I think about the people involved.”
“Each episode will feature fascinating snippets from scientific research into the psychology of criminals, as well as insights into the psychology of victims, explaining the challenging realities of investigating crimes.
“This podcast doesn't have to be guilty fun because you're not only going to have fun, you're actually going to learn something about why people do bad things.”
The new series of Bad People begins on BBC Sounds on Thursday 15 August, with episodes releasing weekly.
