Ahead of the start of the 24/25 Premier League season, Liverpool FC has been named the most talked-about football club in the pre-season podcast world.
According to Podchaser, Liverpool FC (and associated nicknames) are mentioned three times more than second-placed Arsenal.
The two Manchester clubs, City and United, came in just behind Liverpool and Arsenal in the discussion rankings, with Liverpool dominating the podcast world, being mentioned twice as often as West Ham, Everton, Brighton, Aston Villa and Newcastle combined.
Liverpool were mentioned 15,028 times across all podcasts globally in the last 90 days. The data underwent comprehensive review by Podchaser experts, including contextual analysis and keyword and phrase validation to ensure mentions of the club's shortened name (for example “Newcastle”) were not counted as a location rather than the club name.
And if this season's Premier League was decided by podcast chat alone, Wolverhampton Wanderers might have to worry about their future because they were mentioned just 257 times – alongside Ipswich and Leicester in the relegation zone.
Podchaser CEO Bradley Davis said: “Premier League clubs get so much buzz across the media that you'd think they'd be neck and neck at the top, but Liverpool are the clear winners.”
“Perhaps a high-profile new manager with a proven track record and a chance to win the league would be the secret to getting the club some great promotion through podcasting.
“This data not only sheds light on the popularity of these clubs, but also reflects wider trends in media consumption, with podcasts becoming an increasingly popular platform for in-depth sports analysis, commentary and fan engagement.”
Podchaser’s analysis provides valuable insights for advertisers and content creators, highlighting strategic opportunities to engage with passionate football fans ahead of and throughout the Premier League season.
