Crowd Network has teamed up with Greenpeace UK to launch the second season of Oceans: Life Old Water Word of Oceans.
Series 2 won the Bronze Climate Award at the 2024 British Podcast Awards and won the Hot on First First Series heel for the successful First Series heel that was nominated for the listener's choice category.
From species like coral reefs and dolphins and turtles to threats like deep sea mining, there are 12 episodes each covering the story of ocean wonders.
Producing the series, crowd teams from around the world appeared, documenting episodes in the Arctic Circle of the Arctic on the Arctic Circle of the Arctic Circle on the Greenpeace ship. There, the Greenpeace team conducted a scientific expedition to campaign once again for deep-sea mining projects in the Arctic.
In a series of action, the podcast logo was projected onto the iceberg. Wildlife filmmaker, zoologist and broadcaster Hannah Stitfall will return as host.
The purpose of this series is to ensure listeners fall in love with the ocean, educating them about the threats they face and promoting the need to protect their underwater environment. This is part of Greenpeace's “Marine Existence” campaign, which seeks to protect 30% of the world's oceans by 2030 and ban mining projects in the deep sea.
This forms part of the ongoing relationship between the crowd and the greenpeace. Similar to Oceans: Life under Water, the organization partnered earlier this year to revamp SystemShift.
Mike Carr, CEO of Crowd Network, commented: “We are always looking for new ways to push creative boundaries and attract audiences.
“Creating so much of this series from the heart of the Arctic Circle was an incredible experience and helped bring Greenpeace UK missions uniquely and intimately.
“Crowd teams continue to take over their production capacity to new heights when they portray audiences and tell stories in novel ways. The ocean is the perfect example of this.”
James Hanson, director of communications and engagement for Greenpeace UK's Oceans Is Life campaign, has added:
“We have seen firsthand how the podcast was able to reach viewers who may have previously been more skeptical about climate issues.
“The enormous success of the Ocean series is a testament to the creative co-partnership we have built with the crowd, so it makes perfect sense to work together in the second series.
“We can't wait to see how Series 2 lands as we continue to dig into the wonders of our oceans.”
Series 2 Oceans: Underwater Life will be on sale today, Monday, March 10th.
