Podium.me, an award-winning audio platform that provides training to young journalists and writers around the world, has launched a new podcast, My Podium.
The new series talks about everything from careers and trends to politics and college. Interviews, documentaries and audio dramas are shaped by the opinions of young people and the stories they are interested in.
As my podium marks the fifth anniversary of the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, I begin with five original dramas written by young writers across the UK.
These dramas are set in Ireland, Scotland and the UK, and tell the fictional stories of those who survived the strange times of Covid-19 restrictions, often with dark humor and funny results.
The five writers were identified by Cordelia Galloway, who provided a workshop funded by 21st Century Fox.
The drama includes:
Biscuit cans by Dublin-based author Ciara Jayne Stagg
Irish mother and daughter are waiting for ffin at home. Does the recently lifted lockdown restrictions mean their friends will come to the wake? Or do they find soccer games and pubs more appealing?
Operated by award-winning screenwriter Emily Leader
Elderly woman chooses to celebrate her birthday with a young stranger. Generational loneliness and connection are the unexpected result of this short drama recorded at the Folkstone location in Kent.
Derbyshire playwright Simon Marshall saves Mel Spencer
A young couple working at a dairy farm in Derbyshire begins to imagine what is happening in the outside world during lockdown. Complete with an imaginary drama involving a cow cast and a long-lost friend.
Homebrew-nominated comedy writer Katie Sayer by BAFTA
The romance of the meeting by a sewerage plant near Oxford Ring Road is declining during a lockdown walk. What will they find to talk about this picnic?
Doug the Dog by Scottish author Susan Aitken
