A new podcast series on BBC Radio WM and BBC Local tells the story of the worst terrorist attack in history on mainland Britain.
As the 50th anniversary of the Birmingham pub bombings approaches, 'Details: Pub Bombings' explores the impact of the bombs on the countless people affected, including the families of the victims, the Birmingham Six and their families, and the city itself. I'm doing it.
The film asks not only who bombed Birmingham, but also why no one was brought to justice. The series brings together stories that have evolved over five decades for the first time, placing the bombings within the broader context of the unrest and the Good Friday Agreement.
Created, researched and presented by journalist Ed Barlow for BBC Sounds, this 12-episode series tells the story of one of Britain's worst terrorist attacks. It also features never-before-heard footage and a harrowing personal account from one of the men accused in the bombing, revealing just how many lives were affected.
This series dates back to 1974. At the time, two bombs exploded in a downtown pub. The story follows the current story and ongoing calls for a public inquiry into Britain's worst miscarriage of justice, missing evidence, an IRA informant and an alleged government cover-up.
There is also an interview with veteran BBC broadcaster Michael Burke, who reported on the night of the attack and the Birmingham Six trial.
Ed says: “Many people of a certain age will know elements of this case or remember aspects of it, but there are many people who don't know anything at all. That's one of the reasons we created this series. did.
“We want to remind people that 21 people died in the most horrific circumstances, and we still have more questions than answers about what really happened that night in 1974. I wanted to emphasize the fact that there are many.
“The ripple effects of those bombs are being felt in all kinds of ways by so many people to this day.”
