“Scary Terri” is a new season of the podcast that tells the story of Terry Lee Hoffman, a Dallas spiritual leader whose followers continue to die.
Between 1979 and 1989, more than a dozen people died, all of them connected to Terry Hoffman. In many cases, Terry was the beneficiary of the assets they left behind.
Jonathan Hirsch, investigative reporter and host of Fugitive Father, unravels the web of lies, manipulation, and questionable behavior surrounding Hoffman and her organization, Body, Mind and Soul Conscious Development.
Many of the victims' families believe that Terry Hoffman convinced his followers to commit suicide for financial gain. Hirsch uncovers a tape of a counseling session Terry gave to one student, allowing him to hear Terry's manipulations. Hirsch also spoke with many relatives who are still grappling with the mysterious death of a loved one.
This is dark Texas Gothic about a unique kind of serial killer. There was no blood on her hands. Since Terry never shot any of his victims, no conclusive gun was ever found. How can you prove murder if someone dies by your own hands?
Through never-before-heard recordings and interviews with Terry's inner circle, victims' families, and law enforcement, listeners can join Hirsch as he explores questions that persist today. I mean, how was Terry involved in these deaths? And how did she get away with destroying so many people's lives?
Host Jonathan Hirsch said, “Terry Lee Hoffman's story is one of the creepiest and most disturbing stories I've ever come across.'' “Throughout the season, we learn why this one woman had so much power and how she manipulated so many people into doing things they wouldn't normally do. Let's dig into it.”
Sony Music Entertainment's Scary Terri is now available on The Binge as well as all major podcast platforms including Apple Podcasts and Spotify.
