Law&Crime, a network for courtroom and crime documentaries, has launched the next episode of its trial-focused podcast, Karen, available exclusively on Wondery+.
Hosted by Paula Barros, known for Cold Case Files and The Rise and Fall of Ruby Franke, the new series will detail the death of Boston police officer John O'Keefe and delve into the widespread corruption allegations that rocked the small New England town during the trial of O'Keefe's girlfriend, Karen Reed.
The case has gone viral on social media, with many disagreeing with the defense's argument that the accused was framed by those in charge of the investigation.
While many criticized the defense for overreaching with wild claims of obstructed evidence, Reed won overwhelming support as a potential convicted martyr going head-to-head with a powerful Massachusetts family with deep connections and ample opportunity to cover up its wrongdoings.
The trial ended in a mistrial on June 29th, and Reid's future remains uncertain.
Over the course of seven episodes, the series provides an in-depth legal analysis of a complex body of evidence, while also considering both sides of the community's heated debate about public accountability.
Through interviews with investigators, lawyers and people close to the case, the series paints a picture of a divided town and lets listeners decide for themselves whether Reid is truly a cold-blooded killer or just another unlucky woman hiding something big.
The first two episodes of Karen are available to watch now on Wondery+.
